Tortured Soul has announced their sophomore album, "Did You Miss Me," out March 24th

Tortured Soul was born of the simple yet adventurous belief that modern dance music can be performed completely live.  Their unique live performances have astounded audiences around the world, from top nightclubs such as Fabric (London) to 15,000+ crowds at the Montreal Jazz Festival, while their recorded oeuvre pushes the genre boundaries of soul, dance, and pop.  Tortured Soul's style is both an echo of the past and a challenge to the future, combining elements of old soul and funk with a modern dancefloor sensibility.

Tortured Soul is proud to introduce their new album Did You Miss Me on the band's own newly formed TSTC Records (released on Dome UK/Europe, Columbia Japan), a 13-song set that picks up right whereIntroducing left off.  The title is both a tongue-in-cheek nod to the fans who have been waiting with baited breath for the band's sophomore effort, as well as an allusion to the primary motif of the album -- travel and it's various tribulations.

Tortured Soul will be touring the U.S. later this spring.

JIMMY EAT WORLD CLARITY x 10 TOUR 100% SOLD OUT

3-PACK FEATURING CLARITY'S "LUCKY DENVER MINT" ADDED TO ROCK BAND MUSIC STORE

Jimmy Eat World's Clarity x 10 tour- a series of 10 one-time-only shows during which the band will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Clarity album by playing the record in its entirety- has completely sold out in advance. The ten shows begin February 23--the 10th anniversary of Clarity's original release date--at Terminal 5 in New York and conclude with a March 7 homecoming at the Marquee Theater in Tempe AZ.

The kick-off of the Clarity x 10 tour will coincide with Jimmy Eat World's second appearance in the Rock Band music store: a 3-pack including "Lucky Denver Mint" from Clarity, as well as the title track from 2004's Futures and "Sweetness" from the 2001's Bleed American.  Previously, Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" was featured on the Rock Band 2 soundtrack. For more information on the Rock Band Music Store and Rock Band 2, please visit www.rockband.com.

Virtually ignored upon its 1999 release, Clarity has since amassed cult status as an overlooked masterpiece. The media ultimately came around to the record when it was reissued last year, with a 4.5 star BLENDER review hailing it as "masterful" and ALTERNATIVE PRESS calling it "one of the most beloved albums of the '90s." Ironically, it was Clarity's initial failure that put Jimmy Eat World on the path to their eventual success: Left to its own devices after being dropped by Capitol, the band built up a base via relentless touring which funded the recording of their platinum-plus 2001 breakthrough Bleed American.

White Rabbits To Release It’s Frightening On tbd records Out May 19th

Sophomore LP Produced By Britt Daniel / Tracklisting Revealed

After spending the better part of two years on the road (including festival stops at Lollapallooza, Glastonbury (UK), Sasquatch, Monolith and tours with The Walkmen, Spoon, Richard Swift, The Cribs, White Denim and Tokyo Police Club) White Rabbitshunkered down in their Brooklyn practice space to set about re-envisioning the dark pop of their debut Fort Nightly, while adding new sounds and influences to achieve an original work.  The result is It’s Frightening, their second full-length album.

White Rabbits signed to tbd records (US home to Radiohead/Other Lives/Hatcham Social) and erected a makeshift studio in their basement rehearsal space to demo new material.  Band members popped in and out over the course of several months lending ideas and personality to a new batch of songs that defy instant categorization. After enlisting tourmate, friend and songwriter Britt Daniel (Spoon) as producer, the pair began the process of exchanging demos between Brooklyn and Portland.  White Rabbits recorded It’s Frightening over the course of four weeks, only taking a break to play the Transmusicales Festival in Rennes, France.  The sessions were recorded by visionary engineer Nicholas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Deerhunter) at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn, NY.  Taking special care to recreate the unhinged nature of the original demos, the band utilized the wide range of tools in the analog-friendly studio to shape the personal spirit infused in the new tracks.  Upon the completion of tracking, White Rabbits traveled to Austin, TX to mix the record with studio wizard Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail Of Dead) using his exceptional ears to transform It’s Frightening into a uniquely rewarding headphone experience.

It’s Frightening plays like a classic reel of tape from start to finish. Opening with the visceral drums of “Percussion Gun,” it is clear that time-off from the road has served the band well.  The many highlights include the emotional centerpiece “Company I Keep,” the new sonic territory of “Lionesse” and the macabre lyrics of “Right Where They Left.”  Fans of Fort Nightly will find much to go weak in the knees over and new listeners are in for an awakening as White Rabbits flip the switch on an already impressive beginning.  It’s Frightening is a journey into the playfully dark musings of Everyman.

The lineup remains the same: Stephen Patterson (vox/piano), Jamie Levinson (drums), Matthew Clark (drums, guitar), Alex Even (guitar), Gregory Roberts (guitar/vox) and Adam Russell (bass). A U.S. tour will follow the May release of It’s Frightening.

We Have Band Release Acoustic "WHB" Performance On Fader TV

Make US Debut This March In NYC, SXSW Dates To Come
Look Out For Debut LP This Fall

NME – "An adventurous and modernist concoction of post-new rave DIY sambapunkdisco jiggery-pokery that'll come as a shot of distorted filth
in the arm for an overflowing UK electro-pop scene... They got band. We found heroes."

GUARDIAN – "Part Hot Chip, part Talking Heads, if Fischerspooner topped Emerge it would sound like this… If someone doesn't sign them, and sharp-ish,
we'll have a whip round and do it ourselves."

DAZED & CONFUSED - "A hectic, bass-heavy synth-pop odyssey that sounds something like Can being covered by Buggles."

TIME OUT LONDON – "We would describe We Have Band as 'the new Hot Chip' if that wasn't being unfair to both bands. Their icy glitch-rock is already having them hailed as one of the top tips for 2009."

Welcome to the world of We Have Band. The London-based three-piece that have everything going for them despite having been together for little over a year, not had any releases to their name (yet) and played just 50 live gigs. Described as a 'disco rock trio' who 'wear their influences like a flak jacket' they are Darren Bancroft (vocals, drums, percussion, sampler), Thomas WP (vocals, guitar, bass, programming) and Dede WP (vocals, percussion, sampler).

Having all originally met at EMI (all three of them were working desk jobs in the HQ), it was just last year that married couple Thomas and Dede informed Darren about the name of a new band they'd created and as Darren says "basically on the strength of the name I was like right I'm in!" Indeed he is not the only one, the Guardian and NME recently wrote about how brilliant the title of We Have Band works, with the former discussing all possibilities of franchising the We Have bit and using it as a generic brand. Maybe one day, but for now the guys are focussing solely on their music having recently had their tracks 'Hear It In The Cans' and 'You Came Out' featured on Kitsune Maison 6 and the Puregroove compilation and this, their debut single 'Oh!' is out now in the UK on super hip indie 50 Bones (Little Boots,The Virgins).

Their sound is catchy, fun, familiar and classic-sounding but also unarguably their own, it's We Have Band, and that comprises of dark dance rhythms, washy electronic synths, post punk funk bass and individual pop vocals from each member, layered in a way that really makes them sound like nothing else today.

At the core 'Oh!' is an energetic dance track of the highest order, driven by layers of "oh, oh, oh's", frantic percussion and ESG inspired bass, it is also a great pop record and it will sound just as at home on the radio as it will on the dancefloor. In truth it's the perfect introduction to WHB as it sums up their sound just right but leaves you wanting more, which is exactly what will happen next year, including the release of their debut album scheduled for summer '09.

Until then, check their myspace and come and see them play live at one of their many up-and-coming shows.

We Have First Single. They Have Big Future.

LATE OF THE PIER ARRIVES FOR U.S. SPRING TOUR

Band Is Playing Multiple Shows At Austin's South By Southwest Festival

Confirmed For 2009 Coachella Festival

"The most thrilling British debut of the year" - The Guardian

"Brilliant." - Rolling Stone

Eclectic modern-rock Nottingham, England quartet LATE OF THE PIER is preparing a month of U.S. tour dates that will span such major springtime festival events as Austin, TX's South By Southwest and south Florida's Winter Music Conference, and will also include a series of headline gigs and an appearance on the closing day of Indio, CA's Coachella Festival (full schedule below).

Praised at its U.K. release last year for its "spirit of invention, its surfeit of ideas and its ear for a good tune" (The Guardian), LATE OF THE PIER's ambitious and genre-confounding album 'FANTASY BLACK CHANNEL' was released January 13th 2009 on Astralwerks in a special U.S. edition with two U.S.-only bonus tracks. The American response was instant, and unanimous: "The quartet's fervent debut, produced by DJ Erol Alkan, offers a fabulous simulation of 80's new wave, with burping, sputtering synths and sleazy, Bowie-inspired crooning from frontman Sam Eastgate," said Spin. Blender was no less of a convert, saying: "(Late of the Pier) have made one of the most vital EPs of the year." Teen Vogue, Billboard, and a host of local papers agreed, praising the band's "loud, feverish thrills" (Marie Claire) and "the most genius, gonzo anthems you'll have heard come the New Year" (Filter).

Now, anticipation of the band's arrival in America is building fast, with LATE OF THE PIER's MySpace.com webpage nearing a total of 4 million audio streams, with individual album tracks well in the mid-six-figure range. "Late of the Pier…can create arena-electro as good as the 80's antecedents that came before them," raved Alternative Press.

"They reference prog, heavy metal, Roxy Music, Blur, Aphex Twin and Gary Numan - often all in the same song," The Guardian continued. "Every time you play this album, you'll find a new favourite song, riff or wayward moment." The Observer called the album a "tour de force comprising glam techno and rave…It's hard to see how (Alkan) or (the group) could spin a more definitive statement."

Late of the Pier is comprised of Sam Eastgate (vocals/guitar), Sam Potter (synths/samplers), Ross Dawson (drums/percussion) and Andrew Faley (bass).

DATAROCK TO DEBUT NEW SONGS AT SXSW

DATAROCK WILL HEADLINE EMO'S ANNEX THURSDAY MARCH 19

NEW ALBUM RED SET FOR RELEASE EARLY THIS FALL; FIRST SINGLE "GIVE IT UP" AVAILABLE APRIL 7

The red tracksuits return to North America in 2009 with new shows, new moves and a brand new album. Norwegian rockers DATAROCK will release their long-awaited and highly anticipated sophomore album RED later this year. However, those lucky ones at SXSW will get an early taste of RED when Datarock headlines both Emo's Annex Stage on March 19 (Windish Showcase) and The Iheartcomix & Jelly NYC present The Texas Nightclub on March 21.

Additionally, the first single "Give It Up" will be released digitally on April 7. In an early blog to fans, Datarock frontman Fredrik Saroea gave some inside information about the making of RED: "We've dug ourselves into the data about the rock of the late seventies & early eighties: the art, the music, the films, the subversive & popular culture, the new theory, the new technology and all that new equipment. The years between '76 and '83 are in all ways the peak of cultural evolution. The zenith, the rise and the fall." The band decreed that all of the equipment used on RED had to be made before 1983. They also called up a new trinity of inspiration. Fela Kuti, Afrika Bambaataa and Kraftwerk were to replace Talking Heads, Devo and Happy Mondays. A bit of West End, a hint of the Caribbean, a dash of West Africa - and whole lot of pulsating post modernity - give RED a spicy new flavor.

Of course, neither scorpions nor rock bands can escape their natures, and during the making of RED, Datarock found their original muses were along for the ride: Gerald Cassale of Devo joined the creative process; the band found themselves sharing stages with the Mondays; and you'll hear quite a bit of evidence that Datarock's admiration for the Talking Heads (see the track "True Stories") remains intact.

Stay tuned for further information regarding the official North American release date for RED, along with tour dates.

Dri & Handsome Furs Announce Spring Tour, SXSW Dates To Come

Release "You Know I Tried" Joc Max & John Brewer Remix
Smoke Rings Deluxe Edition, Featuring Smoke Rings LP + Bonus Remix EP Out Now On Range Life Records

The Anniversary B-Sides & Rarities Out June 24th On Vagrant Records

Alternative Press Magazine : “Her irony-free delivery  and the legimately funky backdrops allow her to pull off her newfound urban attitude better than any white indie-scene lifer should...this stylistic nomad will likely yield the crown by her next release.”

RemixMag.com : “Adrianne Verhoeven (“Dri”) serves soulful electronic pop on Smoke Rings, her slumped-in-the-easy-char solo LP. Known for her work in The Anniversary, multi-instrumentalist Dri's “girl group” fervor goes over magnificently”
Her debut record, "Smoke Rings", is just that - a collection of kisses (and kiss-offs) blown to past and present loves; a swirl of stoned immediacy, of feelings and melodies coming to life in loose perfection.

With a background in everything from opera to emo, from vibes to horns, Dri's record could have gone anywhere. That she found joy in crafted beats and soulful samples is due largely to the talents of a few local Lawrence, Kansas producers who plied her with tracks that she could turn in to treasures.  Those producers are rare soul/funk deejay Josh Powers ("Don't Wait", "What's Real"), protools-stylist SayMyName ("Two Are One", "Indria", "Inspiration", "Hot As Hades"), hip hop producer and emcee Nezbeat ("You Know I Tried", "Free Tonight") and electronic composer 1,000,000 Light Years ("Meet Me Out").

For a female musician in the mix since she was 18, Dri has seen and done it all and these songs work through what mattered ("Don't Wait"), what matters ("Two Are One"), what a girl wants ("Indria", "Hot As Hades"), what a girl needs ("Inspiration"). What makes her happy is connecting with the music and as a distillation of her talents and influences, "Smoke Rings" is all Adrianne.

As a sense of her seductiveness, however, "
Smoke Rings" is pure Dri.

"
Smoke Rings" was recorded in Lawrence, Kansas by Jim Vollentine and mixed in Austin, Texas by Jim Vollentine. Mastered by Howie Weinberg.

Eulogies Announce US Tour w/ Middle Distance Runner

After two back-to-back stints on the road already in the books this winter – one with Darker My Love, one with The Duke Spirit – the cerebral California indie-band Eulogies are hitting the road again. This time, they will support shoe-gazer outfit Middle Distance Runner, meaning chill pop tunes for days. Tour dates are listed below.

Eulogies band leader Peter Walker can also be heard in ‘The Wrestler,' the surprise hit film featuring an award-winning performance by Mickey Rourke as the washed up professional wrestler Randy ‘The Ram' Robinson. “The biggest thrill is to have my name in the credits of a Darren Aronofsky film,” Walker said. “The song actually fits the theme of the wrestler coming to terms with - and at the same time, missing - his past.” He contributed the original song '39 Stars' to the film, which plays during the thrift store scene. Walker added, “There's usually good indie rock playing in real-life thrift stores.”

‘Here Anonymous,' the band's upcoming full-length record, is set for release through Dangerbird Records on April 7th.

SAOSIN ANNOUNCED AS A 2009 VANS WARPED TOUR HEADLINER

Saosin Will Headline Warped Tour's Hurley Stage Beginning June 26th

Confirmed To Play Bamboozle Left On April 5th In Irvine, CA

Orange County quintet Saosin have announced plans to headline the Hurley stage during the 2009 Vans Warped tour which kicks off in Pomona, CA on June 26th (full schedule below).  This will be the 4th year the band has played the festival, the first back in 2004 before they signed to Capitol Records or recorded their critically acclaimed 2006 self-titled debut album.  California fans will have a chance to see Saosin live before Warped Tour when they play the Bamboozle Left festival on April 5th in Irvine, CA.  June will be a busy month for Saosin as they will also release their new studio album which Alternative Press magazine has already named one of the most anticipated albums of 2009.

"We've always been stoked to be a part of Warped Tour and can't wait to play songs from the new record for all the kids that come out this year," said frontman Cove Reber.

Saosin have become road warriors over the last few years, touring the world relentlessly since the release of their first EP, 2003's Translating the Name.  They have played 3 Vans Warped tours, 3 Rockstar Taste of Chaos tours, 2007's Projekt Revolution tour plus multiple headlining treks and supporting outings with such bands as AFI, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, Incubus, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath and many others.  They've played gigs in Australia, Japan, Jakarta, Indonesia, Bali and Singapore.  In that time, they've released 2 EP's, their debut full-length and Come Close, a live CD/DVD set.

According to a Rolling Stone review of Saosin, "Saosin's spidery, riff-rocking attack is brawny and nuanced, and they know their way around a big chorus - barnburners like 'It's So Simple' and 'Come Close' will give you a dark head rush."

Before heading out on tour with the Underoath last fall, Saosin partnered with global youth brand Hurley to record demos in the Hurley Costa Mesa, CA studio and allowed fans to be apart of the process through a real-time, multi-camera audio/video feed streamed on hurley.com.  The band laid down 18 tracks during the self-produced Hurley sessions.   Three of the new songs plus acoustic versions of an older track were made available on The Grey EP which was sold during the Underoath tour and exclusively at hurley.com.  In January, the band teamed up with producer Butch Walker (Sevendust, Fall Out Boy, Pink) to finish the album in a studio in Malibu, CA and once again, opened the sessions to fans with Hurley through real-time streams on hurley.com.  The final album which fans have been eagerly awaiting is expected to be released in June.

ANGUS AND JULIA STONE CONFIRMED FOR SXSW’S OFFICIAL KCRW'S SHOWCASE

"[A Book Like Thisflickers with the prospects of two talented musicians who work together wonderfully...the two maintain individual identities despite the close collaboration, and as much as one voice differs from the other -- hers, a worthy and eccentric amalgamation of Newsom and Bjork, and his, a lasting crisp and clear spark -- in the moments they meld together, it's easy to forget everything you know about sibling rivalry." – Filter Magazine

Aussie brother/sister duo
ANGUS AND JULIA STONE will make their SXSW debut next month as part KCRW’s Official Showcase on Wednesday, March 18; other bands on the bill includeIda MariaSchool of Seven Bells and Port O’Brien. The Platinum selling pair will also appear on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic on Monday, March 9in celebration of their North American debut album A BOOK LIKE THIS, outMarch 3.

Paste Magazine recently included Angus and Julia in their “10 New Artists To Watch in 2009” round-up, saying, “[Angus and Julia Stone] make a compelling pair...Together, they've crafted A Book Like This, an album of delicately constructed folk songs, some lushly orchestrated (the absolutely gorgeous ‘Silver Coin’), others with twinges of jazz (on ‘Private Lawns’)."

The duo has also become known for their intimate, charming and bewitching live show, selling out headline dates from Australia to London. Upon the their first visit to the States at the end of 2008, they sold out shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego—their first set of dates ever in the US. They will do an 18-city west coast tour with
Brett Dennen starting on Thursday, March 12 in Vancouver and ending on Saturday, April 4 in Salt Lake City.  They will then head to the Midwest and east coast for their own headline tour (tour dates to be announced shortly).

JOAN!

    Word Magazine:
“Joan is Carole King in a little black dress, Burt Bacharach with balls and Lou Reed without the mean streak, all rolled into one."

     Paste Magazine- Editors Pick
On To Survive, her second release under the moniker Joan As Police Woman, she casts the same torchy, seductive, chamber-pop spell that made her debut "Real Life" such a pleasure, only doing it even more effectively this time.

Under The Radar:
Despite a few lapses into the conventional, Wasser has crafted the deepest and most profound album of her career.

     PopMatters:
“Joan As Police Woman are in this for the long haul.”

     Spin:
“For her second album, she flexes more ambition, and the results are rewarding”

  Drowned In Sound:
“'To America’ comes across very much a modern take on West Side Story replete with fine vocal performances from its central pair, sweeping strings and ebullient brass, it’s a jubilant finale”

     Uncut:
“Voice and piano are to the fore, but Wasser's orchestrations pulse and ebb like living things.”

   Q Magazine:
“To Survive, however, ignites enough fireworks of its own”

NY Daily News:
“The singer shows her secret strength in the risks she took in her performance, and in the reach of her compositions. She shares those qualities with Antony, Newsome and Buckley. All of them hold nothing back when they perform. But when Wasser lets go, she does so with a sound all her own.”

     NY Times:
"Joan as Police Woman, creates dizzying, jazz-steeped rock music."

   Blackbook:
Even if you haven’t heard Joan As Police Woman” Wasser, chances are you have listened to records she’s appeared on. On her spare second solo album, her many former colleagues and influences are present, particularly Antony and the Johnsons. But this is her record and it is Wasser’s lone, tender voice that cossets tracks such as the wrenching title song, “To Be Loved,” and its emotional doppelganger, “To Be Lonely.” Recalling the more rueful sides of Feist, Roberta Flack, and a smidgen of Cat Power, To Survive is not an album for the noonday sun. But, oh, night never felt so sweet.

     Venus:
“Loaded with guitar, violin and keyboard infused torch songs that channel Heart’s Dreamboat Annie one moment and Nina Simone the next."

Sleepy Sun To Release Debut LP "Embrace" Out May 26th On ATP/R

Play Hometown Noise Pop Festival Bottom Of The Hill Wednesday Feb. 25th.
US Spring Tour To Come

“San Francisco's Sleepy Sun is one of those every-so-often bands that absorbs, processes, and spits out its influences in such a way as to make pee run down the pants legs of music reviewers everywhere…They are designed to explode the most expanded of frontal lobes...”  -SF Weekly

“...Comfortable, a high drenched in fog, floating inland on ocean wind. Compositionally, things feel natural and free. Each instrument as integral as the rest. Breathing, moving…” -Aquarius Records

“Sleepy Sun’s songs, mellifluously flowing between bittersweet balladry and paranoid, hazy atmospherics, are like a 2am car ride — not going somewhere, not coming back, but taking an unexpected detour through uncertain terrain. A sublime fog, the mood is both assured and undefined, leaving me to drift, to slither, through a spectrum that ranges from the nostalgic to the anxious, from the freewheeling to the claustrophobic….” -Naturalismo

"...This collective of young longbeards has become one of the town's most beloved bands in a very short period of time, laying down lumbering servings of heavy psychedelic freakadelia and dusted Northern Californian psych-folk. Williams' angelic voice weaves in-between a sublimely mind-rattling cacophony reminiscent of Santa Cruz psych-rock alumni Comets on Fire at their headiest...If rapturous local buzz is any indication, Sleepy Sun might be the best bet of the next Santa Cruz band to break big..." -Metro Santa Cruz

Sleepy Sun have an honest, high-energy show that ranges from hard, early Sabbath-level rock to a genuine gospel/spiritual vibe, all making Sleepy Sun a really tough act to follow. Their discipline, dynamics, dominance over tempo (the subtlest and most commonly overlooked musical device), and brooding nature evokes comparisons as disparate as Black Sabbath, George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass", Pink Floyd and Bjork . . . and we still haven’t heard the record. -The Deli Magazine SF

11 Things You Need To Know...

Tell us about the origins of the band – how you met, how you found your sound etc.:

This band was conceived under a full moon in the lovely town of Santa Cruz, California.  With the forest and ocean as our back drop, we were drawn to each other as fellow musicians, friends, and lovers.  Our sound began with a more straight laced rock n roll feel but soon took on more depth and heaviness, drawing from early Black Sabbath,  Creedence Clearwater Revival, Can, and Creation Records, to more contemporary local acts like Comets on Fire and Mammatus. There was a lot of jamming - a lot of free flowing, heady, "where am I?" - type jamming that definitely contributed  to our sonic ascension.

Your biog says you're from the "occult influenced creative community of Santa Cruz" – please elaborate! Are you into the occult as a band? And how big is occultism in Santa Cruz?!

Santa Cruz is a community very much submersed into it's own culture-- although it's veneer may convey a sense of murky, burned-out-hippy life, there's a sparkling bubble kingdom if you know where to narrow your vision. Beaches are covered in Monarch butterflies for a few weeks every year, naked dancing to drums in the moonlight, rogue black metal shows under the cover of night and redwood elders, and dank caves that eventually meet the salty ocean water. It becomes very easy to 'lose your head in the clouds' so to speak in such a geographically rich territory. Sometimes all you want to do is paint your face with charcoal, red, and black, cruise the graveyard, scope some blasters, and check out with some durk pins. The Occult is what you make it.

And then you moved to San Fran. What made you decide to move there?  Whats the current day scene like there?

We all love Santa Cruz. We really do. But if we didn't make the move out of there, things could have easily become stagnant. There's a circuit of about four to five venues in Santa Cruz that you can play before it's all tapped out, and two of which are all ages. On top of that, more than half of 21+ crowd leaves for summer vacation from University, so it's difficult to build up a following in sleepy Santa Cruz Co. San Francisco on the other hand is a city, and we hit the ground rolling and have been shoveling coal in the engine ever since. As per the SF 'scene', it's really all across the board-- hair metal, punk, indie, electronica, etc. are all coexisting across the peninsula. They're all alive in their own little niche bars, and you can start to see cross-over which is where the electricity sparks.

There's a psych-rock influence on your sound. Is the psych rock sound still alive and well in the Bay Area?

There is not a 'psych rock' scene per se-- '67 is long gone, and Haight St. is nothing more than a tourist trap banking on the name and history of the area to sell Mukluks and Dead shirts (p.s. the Dead totally rules).  We feel psychedelic influence on our music comes more from Northern California itself more than any scene or city.  There truly is nowhere on Earth like our little corner of the country where the redwoods smother the ocean...

Your 'battle cry' is "Let's get weird". When and where do you use this phrase, and where did it come from?

This is the phrase to use when you and your friends are bored with ordinary, humdrum folly-making. If someone drops this line, where ever you may be, the entire group must participate in an activity created on the spot, regardless of social norms or rules. If this means 'diming' a record entitled "German Beer-Drinking Music", wrapping a poor soul in toilet paper and plastic bags, fogging out the living room and reinacting American Gladiators with socks and pillows, then so be it.

What are your shared interests, both musical and otherwise?

Pizza, horticulture, Neil Percival Young.

What have been the big milestones in your career to date?

There's nothing like having your first piece of vinyl pressed. Also, playing pretty much any show put on by Folk Yeah! Productions. Opening for Rodriguez at the Great American Hall in our hometown the day we got back from tour was a dream, and Folk Yeah!'s Festival in the Forest in Big Sur was an unforgettable moment for all of us.  That festival was as close as it gets to the communal musical vibe everyone assumes is going on in the Bay Area.

Where and when did you record the album?

Sleepy Sun traveled to Vancouver, BC in January 2008 to record 'Embrace' with Colin Stewart. We tracked for 11 days, took off four days to rest on the island of Victoria, and then hopped back on the ferry to the Hive to mix for another four days.

What was the aim for the album? What were you hoping to achieve?

Before travelling to BC to record, much time was spent brainstorming about how to compile the songs in a way that would set a singular vibe or tone or message. In other words, we aimed to record a cohesive collection of songs, inspired by full length albums intended to be listened to from start to finish. We didn't however go into the studio claiming outright that we were going to create a "psych-roch record", i guess that came naturally. In the studio, There was a conscious decision to change the songs, allowing them to bloom into sonic bulbs, radically different than we had been playing them live for the past year. I suppose you could say we sought to frame these songs in their new light-- we've certainly changed the way we play them live since the birth of 'Embrace'.

Talk us through some of the key tracks (the inspiration / any fun stories behind them etcm unusual recording tecniques), especially future singles.

Electical-engineer Brian Tice recorded 9/10ths of the instruments on 'Golden Artifact' using an 8-track mixer in our living room in Santa Cruz (also known as the Dungeon, because of it's low ceilings, low lighting, and various smells attributed to a plethora of cats, sugar gliders and human rodents). All of the band lived in house during this period, and we sat down and hashed out the entire song in a few sittings. We setup the mixer, the mics were held together with tape and cobra-whiskey bottles, and hit 'record'. Our good friend Norman Krow mixed the original version to be placed on a compilation for the inaugural Loves in Heat Records festival. We brought along the data to Vancouver, BC and Colin Stewart worked his magic, and we re-tracked vocals and darker percussion.

After watching all the Hellraiser and all Jim Henson films in one sitting, Matt wrote the guitar verse for 'New Age' . Bret was currently studying in Europe, so the song (tentatively titled Cromag) bloomed into 15 minute epic sans vocals, compensated with shredding keys and hot air balloons. Once Bret returned from his overseas voyage, we started working on the track as a full band. It went through countless changes, but never sounded complete until a year and half of sitting on the back-burner (although occasional live performances existed for our own curiosity). This was the first song we attempted to record at the Hive Studios in Jan. 08' and we ended up ripping out half of the heavy, plodding guitar tracks and replaced with sparkling acoustics.

What are your hopes for the future of the band?

To do Wayne's World for a living.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour Flying Into The US!

Hitting SXSW, both coasts and Chicago for their new album, FRUIT (Small Giants, May 18)

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour return to the states this March! They already got New York dancing up a storm when they came to visit last year, this time they're hitting SXSW, followed by dates in Chicago and California.

One 3-Song EP and 3 NYC Shows Lit Up the Media Skyline; Debut Full-Length, FRUIT, Coming May 18th! Don’t Miss TAGT When They Return to America!

Formed less than a year ago, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is moving at the speed of light. The band, led by Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg, created quite a buzz when they came to New York City this past November, heralded (and hosted) by Spin and GBH.TV as one of the hottest new bands from across the pond – thanks to their attention-grabbing 4-track digital EP (3 songs + a remix), Around the Bend.

Music lovers responded loudly: The band has been embraced by Rolling Stone, Anthem, NYLON, GOOD, AOL and Yahoo! Music, while RCRDLBL premiered an exclusive MP3. Whitney Matheson included "Around the Bend" in her “POP CANDY” podcast for USA TODAY, and URB will feature TAGT in an upcoming issue. MTVu featured “The Sun Ain’t Shining No More” video in the “Freshman Five” in early December, and the producers of “Gossip Girl” loved the band so much, they used three (!) of the band’s songs in their December 1 episode. Oh, and did we mention that TAGT’s song “Around the Bend” was hand-picked by Steve Jobs for use in the most recent iPod Touch commercial?

Their debut full-length, Fruit (April 21) swerves left and right with one surprise after another. Each song is a carefully crafted pop gem, guaranteed to get you moving. "Passport Approved", a syndicated tastemaker weekly radio show showed their love for "The Golden Age", the sixth track on the album, while AM New York says it is, “A blast of vintage soul from Copenhagen...a verifiable sensation.” TAGT will bring their 6-piece party back to the U.S. in March with the dates below:

Thursday, March 19 - SXSW, Austin, TX @ Windish Shocase at Emo's Outdoors
Saturday, March 21 - SXSW, Austin, TX @ Chop Shop Showcase
